Xiaomi Mi Band 4

Xiaomi’s Mi Band 5 will reportedly have a larger display and global NFC support

At this point, we have talked a lot about smartphone brands such as OnePlus, Samsung and even Realme. However, the one brand that we haven’t talked about is Xiaomi and it is quite strange because the company is almost silent from last few months. Now, we understand that the products from Xiaomi might be coming later but we usually see some sort of announcements from the company. Having said that, we now have a new leak from the house of Xiaomi which is regarding the fitness band it releases every year named as the Mi Band series.

Last year, we saw the Mi Band 4 released first in China and then in India which has become quite successful. However, we can say that Xiaomi’s Mi Band 3 was the most successful band that they have released in recent years because of its cost and the features it offered. Last year’s Mi Band 4 did bring upgrades such as a coloured AMOLED panel and NFC but the NFC support was only limited to China. Now, it is being reported that the Mi Band 5 will bring even bigger upgrades to the Mi Band 4 and first of them will be that the display will now be much bigger than before.

As per the report from Tizenhelp, the next Mi Band will have a 1.2-inch AMOLED colour display which is much bigger than the 0.95-inch panel we saw on the Mi Band 4. Also, we will see global NFC support on the device which means that the device will be able to handle payments. Currently, we have many payment systems such as Mi Pay and Google Pay as well as others which take advantage of contactless payments via NFC so this feature could bring NFC payments to the masses. Also said is that the Mi Band 5 will cost 179 Yuan in China which is close to $26 in the US, lower than the Mi Band 4 price.
