PUBG(Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds Mobile), the popular game by Chinese internet giant Tencent Holdings. PUBG successfully pulled over USD $226 million(roughly Rs 1.7 thousand crores) in May. Making it the highest-grossing game in the world for May 2020.
App analytics firm Sensor Tower reported that PUBG mobile’s revenue in May represented a 41% year-on-year increase. The game has topped the firm’s monthly rankings of the mobile games world for the straight streak of 9 months.
As per report around 53% of the revenue of this game comes from China itself.10.2% came from the US, and 5.5% came from Saudi Arabia. It should be noted that the game itself is free to play but it also offers numerous in-app purchases.
This may not come as a huge surprise that due to lockdown across the globe most of people have been forced to stay indoors and invest their time in games and other activities.
PUBG Mobile was followed by Honor of Kings which is also published by Tencent Holdings. It made around USD $204.5 million (roughly 1.5 thousand crores) in May 2020 Which was 42% growth from May last year according to the report it shows that 95% of the game’s revenue comes from China itself. The global version of this Chinese game was launched in 2017 which was called Arena of Valor.
PUBG mobile was already too popular among gamers due to its battle royale mode since its first launch in 2018. This game comes with constant updates which made its popularity spread all over the world and made players constantly entertained and engaged.
